Weaving as Human Relationship

I address relationship of human by creating woven sculpture that connects two people physically.

I think weaving and human relationship have a lot in common and I inspired by the process a lot.

Weaving is very process/technique based work and it is interesting that I have been inspired by the technique to develop the context.

To be more specific, the process putting two different material (Warp and Weft) together and connecting them as one piece is a really beautiful gesture like building up our relationships with others interrelating information and creating new experiences. And the way each thread of warp and weft related is also reminds me of human relationship. They are together but still being individuals not loosing their own nature and never melted into the other.

Human relationship is built up by language which includes verbal words and body gesture in time which shared by people. Weaving also needs certain language and time to make woven piece. Warp and weft are related in specific process and technique and you also need certain amount of time.

And in both there are certain rules we have not to cross.

The reason why I make physical connection of people is I sometimes see relationship as something can be vanished easily. So I just wanted to make some kind of certification of close relationship which has physical presence in space.

Intimate Relationship

With this piece I wanted to make cloth two people can wear being close to each other.

They can hold their hands through the sleeve between them. And actually it looks like some kind of trap since each of them is too tight. I think it can be talked about close relationship that they have to check the other every time when one of them tries to take next step.
