PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURE

Friederike Hammann BROKERS IN TEARS
Friedrich Schillers theory of Homo ludens gives an optimistic view of play as the true fulfillment of being
human. We achieve completeness and freedom through esthetical play.
But play often becomes a game, and games can be lost: From Red to Blue - Palmfaces

Dzahid Filipovic DANGEROUS HEARTS
The heart itself: Dzahid Filipovic takes a familiar medium and creates an open and unbiased statement about realistic and symbolic expression. His sculptures show a yielding flesh-like body as well as a strong and resisting core. To touch their surface gives a pleasant feeling, but their bodies are made of the most toxic natural wood found in Europe.

INSTALLATION

Nikkole Huss VANISHING LANDSCAPES

watercolor and encaustic monotype on Kozo paper
48 cm x 33 cm each, set of 15

Drawings:china marker and encaustic monotype on Kozo paper
300 cm x 46 cm each, set of 15

Process:
The depiction of rising sea levels and submerged islands in the installation, Vanishing Landscapes is achieved by adding a foundation of watercolor paint on Kozo paper. This type of Japanese paper is made from renewable branches of the Kozo bush. Then, thin layers of natural pigments combined with beeswax are printed on top as an encaustic monotype. This is a “one of a kind” print that involves painting with pigmented beeswax on a smooth, heated hot plate. Once the paper is pressed into the wax, a „Baren“ is used on the back side of the paper to soak in the image.
The imagery related to deforestation, melting glaciers and extreme weather events in the drawings is created using black china marker, a wax writing tool. Pigmented beeswax is applied on top using the encaustic monotype technique
